Half-year shared ownership sales top target

STRONG demand for affordable new homes has powered a target-topping half-year result for our shared ownership sales.

We finished September with a total of 17 completed sales − one up on our month-end target of 16.

That pushed up our half-year tally to 66 sales − also just ahead of target.

At the same time, the average share for each new home sold has risen to 48.8%, with sales generating a total income of just over £5.5m for Bromford so far this year.

The strong results are highlighted by Bromford Homes Head of Sales Alan Bradley (pictured above) as good news for first-time buyers across central England. "The numbers tell just part of the story − an important part, of course, because the profit from this income will be reinvested in building more affordable homes," says Alan.

"But it's important that we also highlight the human part of the story because behind each of those 66 shared ownership sales is a singleton, couple or young family who've seen their home ownership dream come true at a price they can afford.

"We're proud of the difference that shared ownership can make to the lives of customers like nurse Deborah Collins, who had all but given up hope of being able to quit Generation Rent and buy her own home in the neighbourhood where she and son Oscar had put down roots.

"Until, that is, Deborah found out about our shared ownership homes at Aspenwood, Dickens Heath. She and 10-year-old Oscar now live in a lovely new three bed semi that's close to school, work and friends − and, to use their own words, life is great."

Looking ahead, Alan is confident that first-time buyers across central England will keep saying a big YES to Bromford and to shared ownership through the second half of 2014-15 and beyond.

"We've got more than 20 active shared ownership developments at the moment, with some exciting launches at places like Arden Fields (pictured above) in Knowle, Mulberry Gardens in Meriden − both near Solihull − and Buckby Meadows in Long Buckby, not far from Northampton," says Alan.

"There are more developments in the pipeline and we hope to end the year with around 140 shared ownership sales in total."
