Moving story as Brookfields dreams come true
MOVING DAY fever swept one of our latest shared ownership developments with a
surge of pre-weekend completions. Two first-time buyers collected
their keys at Brookfields, Shrewsbury, last
Thursday − and two more saw their property dreams become a
bricks-and-mortar reality the next day.
Then a fifth completion followed this week. That means all but
one of the eight Bromford-built houses are now occupied, with the
final handover set to take place before the end of March.
There to welcome all the part-buy owners and show them round
their new two-beds was Bromford Homes Sales Consultant, Harj Bahia.
"This is definitely the best bit of our job − the moment when
a customer is handed the keys to a home that they can call their
own, the moment when all their hopes and dreams come true," says
"It's so rewarding to know that shared ownership's low deposits
and low purchase prices have made all the difference to so many
people. All of these buyers would have found it impossible to get
on the property ladder any other way. Open market prices are simply
out of their reach − especially in a sought-after town like
historic Shrewsbury (pictured below), where property prices are
high and average wages are relatively low."
Bromford Homes Head of Sales Alan Bradley agrees. "Local
first-time buyers were quick to snap up these shared ownership
houses as soon as we opened our demonstration home. Deciding to buy
really was the only logical thing to do once they could see the
build quality and all the great features that come as standard with
a Bromford home − as well as the great location here at Bagley
Drive and, of course, the low deposit and low purchase price."
In the case of Brookfields (pictured below), a typical 45% share
of a two-bed home cost just £60,750 and the deposit could be just
£3,038 with a 95% mortgage. The actual amount you buy with shared
ownership depends on your financial circumstances but 25% is the
lowest and the maximum share is 75% − with low rent paid on
the remaining share.
"As you can see from our example here in Shrewsbury, shared
ownership deposits are much cheaper than if you buy outright − and
we've got several comparisons that prove the total monthly cost for
a typical shared ownership buyer is less than it costs to rent
privately," says Alan.
"That's why people across central England keep saying YES to
shared ownership and why we expect equally strong demand from
first-time buyers at our next Shropshire development − Church
View at Telford's Donnington Wood.
"Prices here have just been confirmed at just £58,500 for a 45%
share of a two-bed home and my message to local first-time buyers
is to be quick or you could miss out. We've got just four of these
two and three-bed shared ownership homes so register now and take
the first step towards seeing your dream of home ownership come
