£70 vouchers for grooviest retro design selfie
WE loved watching the BBC's Great Interior Design
Challenge where creative contestants get three days, a wad of
cash and some professional help to transform everything from
characterful cottages in the Cotswolds to Victorian terraces and
1920s beach huts.
Episode 13 was especially fab as the three would-be designers
got to grips with makeovers in an iconic 1960s housing complex
known locally as the Elephant Houses.
Two of the contestants really went for it. Martin −
eventual winner of this week's final − was given free rein
with a bright, bold Austin Powers-inspired brief while Fiona, who went on to become Martin's fellow
finalist, used colour blocking to pick out the strong architectural
features of her open-plan room with a "fab and groovy" midcentury
It's amazing how much we still love design from the late 1950s,
1960s and early 1970s. You've only got to look at the Habitat
section of your local Homebase or browse through the pages of an
online retailer like Achica to see how strong it is as an
Modern classic Eames-style chairs are very much in demand,
original 60s/70s Ercol daybeds and vintage Danish teak furniture
can fetch crazy prices on eBay, and Sanderson's fun and funky Dandelion Clocks wallpaper and fabrics are
everywhere − including the sets of telly soaps
EastEnders and Emmerdale.
We know some of our shared ownership buyers are into this retro
look − and would love it if you shared some selfies that show
your fab home stylings.
It doesn't have to a complete room makeover. It could be a photo
of you relaxing in a favourite funky chair or focusing on a feature
like some crazy 70s wall stripes.
Don't worry. We won't be asking Great Interior Design Challenge
judges Sophie Robinson and Daniel Hopwood to cast their critical
eyes over your handiwork!
But we would welcome the chance to celebrate your creativity and
style choices by publishing your photos on our website and Facebook
We're offering £70 in shopping vouchers to the retro fan −
you don't have to be a Bromford Homes customer − who sends in
our favourite photo(s). You can send them via Twitter or Facebook.
